What is a salary to hourly calculator?

A salary to hourly calculator converts pay between an annual salary and an hourly wage, and everything in between — daily, weekly, biweekly, and monthly. Enter a yearly salary to see the equivalent hourly rate, or enter an hourly rate to see the yearly salary. It is handy for comparing a salaried job offer with an hourly one, checking a contract rate, or budgeting by paycheck. All results are gross pay, before tax and deductions.

How the conversion is calculated

The math is straightforward. To turn a salary into an hourly rate, divide the annual salary by the total hours worked in a year: hours per week × weeks per year (40 × 52 = 2 080 hours for a standard full-time year). Weekly pay is the annual salary divided by weeks per year, monthly pay is the annual salary divided by 12, biweekly pay is two weeks of pay, and daily pay is the weekly pay divided by days worked per week. To go from hourly back to annual, multiply the hourly rate by hours per week and weeks per year. Change the hours, weeks, or days to match your own schedule — part-time, overtime, or unpaid weeks off.

Example

A 60 000 salary at 40 hours a week and 52 weeks a year is 60 000 ÷ 2 080 = 28.85 per hour. Weekly pay is 60 000 ÷ 52 = 1 153.85, biweekly is 2 307.69, monthly is 60 000 ÷ 12 = 5 000.00, and daily is 1 153.85 ÷ 5 = 230.77. Reversing it, 25 per hour × 40 × 52 = 52 000.00 a year, which is 4 333.33 a month. These are gross figures — your take-home pay will be lower after tax.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert my salary to an hourly rate?+

Divide your annual salary by the number of hours you work in a year. For a standard full-time job that is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2 080 hours, so a 60 000 salary is about 28.85 per hour.

How many work hours are in a year?+

A common full-time assumption is 2 080 hours — 40 hours per week times 52 weeks. Adjust the hours or weeks if your schedule is different.

How do I convert hourly pay to a yearly salary?+

Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work per week and by the weeks you work per year. At 25 per hour, 40 hours, 52 weeks, that is 52 000.00 a year.

Is this before or after tax?+

All results are gross pay, before income tax, social contributions, and other deductions. Your actual take-home pay will be lower and depends on where you live.

What if I take unpaid weeks off?+

Lower the weeks per year value. For example, two unpaid weeks off means 50 weeks, which raises the hourly rate needed to reach the same salary.

How is biweekly pay calculated?+

Biweekly pay is two weeks of pay — the weekly amount multiplied by two. There are 26 biweekly pay periods in a 52-week year.

How do I calculate monthly pay from a salary?+

Divide the annual salary by 12. A 60 000 salary is 5 000.00 per month before tax, regardless of how many hours you work.

Does this work for part-time hours?+

Yes. Set hours per week to your actual schedule and the hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly figures update accordingly.
